Beaked Sedge

Carex rostrata

Beaked-Sedge is a cool season, strongly rhizomatous, native grass like perennial, sod former occurring in shallow water or wet soils around waterways and sometimes in wet meadows from low to moderately high elevations. The plant can grow between 1 to 4 feet. It flowers from Jun to July. It is suitable for sandy, loamy, and clay soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers perennially wet areas and is often found in standing water. It is only moderately palatable but provides good habitat for wildlife. Useful for wetland and riparian restoration.
