Indian Ricegrass
Achnatherum hymenoides
Indian Ricegrass is a cool-season perennial bunch grass that is native to semiarid areas of western North America, from Sonora, Mexico to Yukon Territory, Canada. It grows 1 to 2.5 feet tall, with numerous elongated leaves, and a panicle-type seed head. It is one of the most drought-tolerant grass species, and thrives on sandy soil, as well as being a common pioneering species on sandstone or shale parent material. Used for forage and site stabilization on marginal or sandy sites.
