Prairie Aster
Machaeranthera tanacetifolia
Prairie Aster is a drought hardy biennial also commonly known as Tansy Leaf Aster or Tahoka Daisy. A native forb throughout the central and western plains and mountain areas of the United States. It can be found at elevations up to 9,000 ft. It grows from 4 to 18 inches in height with purple daisy like flowers that bloom from summer through fall. Grows quickly, blooms heavily, dies with first frost. Can regrow following spring if seed falls on bare ground. It needs good drainage and full sun. It is very drought-resistant and is adaptable to soils.
