Don grew up on an irrigated farm in the Arkansas Valley of Southeastern Colorado. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from CSU Fort Collins, but started his career in the Soil Conservation Service where he ended up falling in love with conservation of the environment. Eight years later he found himself in the Seed Industry where he stayed for 14 years, working for four different seed companies. In 1998, Don Hijar and his late wife, Janine, decided to open and operate their own seed company in Greeley, CO; Pawnee Buttes Seed Inc. was the result. When he’s not in the office, Don can be found with his horses, mountain biking, snowboarding, or spreading education through his passion for agriculture.
